Pre-ordering: If you have ordered an item which is identified as on Pre-Order, please be advised that the despatch and delivery date may be delayed and subject to change. If there are any delays due to such items, we will endeavour to contact you as soon as reasonably possible to give you an estimate of delivery.
Click & Collect: When placing an order with the ‘Click & Collect’ option at the checkout we’ll pack your order as soon as reasonably possible and send you a confirmation email. Your order will be ready to pick up from: The Growling Shrew, 49 Swadford Street, Skipton, North Yorkshire, BD23 1QY during our normal opening hours. Due to space constraints, orders must be collected with 10 days unless by prior arrangement. For uncollected ‘Click & Collect’ orders we may return the item(s) to stock and cancel your order. We reserve the right to charge a fee for uncollected orders and this will be deducted from the amount refunded back to your original payment method.
Fulfilling Orders: If, for any reason, we are not able to fulfil the whole order we will swap missing items for similar beer/cider of at least equal value to minimise delays to the order. We reserve the right to swap up to 3 items to have your order despatched as quickly as possible. If we need to swap more than 3 items, we will place your order on hold and contact you for further instructions.
Gift Vouchers: We do have gift vouchers available which can only be redeemed in-store at The Growling Shrew, Skipton and not online. These vouchers can be purchased for the value of £20, £30 & £50 and are valid for 3 months after purchase. Once purchased, gift vouchers cannot be refunded or exchanged for cash. Purchased gift vouchers will be delivered by Royal Mail standard delivery unless stated otherwise. Unfortunately, we are unable to refund or replace lost vouchers.
Age Restrictions: You must be aged 18 years or older to buy alcohol. By placing an order with us online you are confirming you are aged 18 years or older. It is an offence to sell alcohol to anyone under the age of 18 in the UK. If you are buying alcohol for someone else the recipient must also be aged 18 years or older. Deliveries must be signed for by a person aged 18 years or older. If our staff or couriers are in any doubt about the age of the recipient on delivery, they will request proof of age identification. We reserve the right to cancel the delivery if the age and identity of the recipient is in doubt.

Restrictions may apply within the following towns and villages as delivery charges are generated via a delivery postcode and a delivery charge may still apply under the following options:
- Option 1: Town/villages qualifying for the Home Delivery option: Skipton, Carleton, Embsay, Gargrave, Horton, Cononley, Crosshills, Glusburn, Kildwick, Silsden, Steeton, Sutton-in-Craven, Cowling, Barnoldswick, Earby, Kelbrook, Salterforth, and Sough.
- Option 2: Town/villages qualifying for the Home Delivery option with an additional delivery charge: Hebden, Grassington, Hellifield, Kirby Malham, Threshfield, Bracewell, and Brogden.
Delivery Timescales: Orders ordinarily will be processed and collated for despatch each Thursday where reasonably possible. Please note that during busier periods such as Christmas despatch times maybe a little longer. Also, please ensure that special delivery instructions are included within the ‘Additional Delivery Information’ field at checkout as this will assist us and our courier service endeavouring to provide an issue-free delivery. Please allow 3 working days from the date of despatch for mainland UK deliveries via courier.
For deliveries to Remote Locations (The Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Scottish Highlands & Northern Ireland) this timescale will be longer and will also incur additional delivery charges. Please get in contact with us prior to placing an order at: email@example.com if delivery is to a ‘Remote Location’. This will enable us to quote a delivery charge whilst also preventing avoidable delays in processing your order.
Home Delivery: For orders which are ordered as part of our Local Home Delivery service we will aim to offer same week delivery for orders placed by midnight on Wednesdays, please note we only operate home deliveries on Friday and Saturday evenings. As part of local home deliveries, we unfortunately cannot offer an exact timeslot for delivery and if we are not able to fulfil your home delivery we will make contact via the communication methods provided as part of your order. If using our Local Home Delivery service, we are not able to leave your order with a neighbour, in a safe place or with anyone under the age of 18 years old or anyone who fails to provide proof of age if requested (Challenge 25 Policy).
Courier Delivery: Deliveries via our courier service are made Monday – Friday (excluding bank holidays) on a tracked service. If you’re not in at the time of delivery the courier will try to leave the parcel with a neighbour if anybody is home nearby. Alternatively, if you know you won’t be in, you can specify a neighbour, a safe place for your order to be left or arrange for an alternate date for delivery. We aren’t able to guarantee that your order will be left in a safe place as this is at the discretion of the driver. If you have received a failed delivery notice you can contact DHL directly to rearrange delivery on a more suitable day, or if you have difficulties rearranging delivery with DHL you can contact us and we will be more than happy to help you out. DHL will attempt delivery 3 times in total (usually on consecutive days) before returning the parcel to us.
Free UK Delivery: All orders over £75.00 qualify for free weekday shipping (UK mainland only, excluding The Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Scottish Highlands & Northern Ireland).
Order Tracking: When your order (excluding gift vouchers) is despatched, you will be contacted via email by DHL who should provide you with a tracking number and tracking details.
Delivery Mishaps: We know that orders not arriving all present and correct is frustrating, and we hate to see great beer, cider, gin or rum wasted, but one of the risks with couriering glass and cans is that they can break or be dented from time to time due to courier mishandling. If your order is received damaged, please send us a photograph of the package and the broken contents. Please note, every attempt is made to ensure all our boxes have their full quota of beers/ciders, however on the rare occasion that an item of your order is missing or broken, contact our team at firstname.lastname@example.org within 7 days after it has been received and we will aim to sort this out for you.
Returns: If you change your mind about your order and no-longer want your items, please get in touch with us at email@example.com within 14 days of receiving your order.
We only offer refunds for returned items and do not offer any exchanges. Original delivery charges are non-refundable if your order is returned. There are exclusions to this and purchased gift vouchers cannot be refunded.
The cost of postage and safe return of returned orders are the responsibility of the customer until the order is back in our possession. We recommend that a trackable method of postage is chosen and you hold on to the proof of postage. Once your order has been returned, we will get in touch to let you know it has been received and your refund has been processed. Refunds will be issued back to your original method of payment.
Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013:
This legislation offers you the following cancellation rights when you buy online or by phone:
- You are entitled to cancel your order if you so wish, provided that you exercise your right no longer than 14 days after the day on which you receive the goods or services.
- Your right to return products does not apply to goods made to your specification, that have been clearly personalised or which by reason of their nature cannot be returned or are liable to deteriorate or expire rapidly.
- If you wish to exercise your right of cancellation, you are obliged to retain possession of the goods and take reasonable care of them.
- To exercise the right to cancel, you must inform us of your decision to cancel your contract by a clear statement, including details of your name, geographical address, details of the order you wish to cancel and, where available, your phone number and email address.

- If you decide to cancel, you should return the goods to us at your cost within 14 days of such cancellation and we will reimburse to you (by the method used to pay for the original transaction) the amount in relation to goods to which cancellation rights apply. This excludes the cost of delivery.
- We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
By registering your details on our website, you consent to The Growling Shrew maintaining, recording, holding and using personal data we collect about you. We promise to never share or disclose your personal information with anyone else unless legally obliged to by the Government agencies. We are fully committed to the Data Protection Act 2018, and are dedicated to the privacy of your information.
You warrant that the personal information which you are required to provide when you register as a customer is true, accurate, current and complete in all respects, and you will notify us immediately of any changes to the personal information by contacting us via email@example.com. You agree not to impersonate any other person or entity or to use a false name or a name that you are not authorised to use.
You fully agree to indemnify, defend and hold us, and our officers, directors, employees, agents and suppliers, harmless immediately on demand, from and against all claims, liability, damages, losses, costs and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of any breach of the conditions by you or any other liabilities arising out of your use of this website, or the use by any other person accessing the website using you shopping account and/or personal information.
Cookies are used to enable the shop, basket and checkout functions of our website to work. Without these you are unable to place an order, but if you are interested in learning how to use the internet without allowing cookies, please search for "block cookies", which will explain how to change settings in your web browser to that effect.
Like many websites we also use Google Analytics to measure how many people use our site, which pages are looked and where visitors come from. The information accessed by us through Google Analytics is anonymous and does not contain any personally identifiable information. If you would like to opt out of Google Analytics, there are various options open to you. Please search "opt out of google analytics" for the latest methods that apply to your device, which include several options in your web browser.
Data is stored securely on our devices plus those of Craven Digital Limited in Barnoldswick (who host our website and email on their web server located in a British data centre in Manchester).
Personal information and order details are stored for no more than 1 year, after which point they are automatically permanently deleted. To request the removal of your personal data from our records before this point, please contact us.
To ensure that your shopping experience is safe, simple and secure The Growling Shrew uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. This encrypts and protects the data you send to us over the internet. When SSL is enabled then you will see a padlock at the top of your browser and you can click on this to find out information about SSL digital certificate registration.
As a security precaution, it is not possible to place an order without an SSL-encrypted connection.
Online payments are processed by Stripe, Inc using a secure, encrypted connection from our website.
We will take all reasonable care, in so far as it is in our power to do so, to keep the details of your order and payment secure, but in the absence of negligence on our part we cannot be held liable for any loss you may suffer if a third party procures unauthorised access to any data you provide when accessing or ordering from the website.
The Growling Shrew endeavours, to the fullest extent possible to provide accurate and updated details, descriptions and prices of products on this website. Unfortunately, there may be occasional price changes, sold out items and other unintentional errors on our site. We reserve the right not to be liable for these errors or changes and neither The Growling Shrew, nor any employee or representative of The Growling Shrew will be liable for damages arising from the use of this website or the products sold here.
We reserve the right to modify or withdraw (temporarily or permanently) this website with or without notice to you and you confirm that we shall not be liable to you or any third party for any modification to or withdrawal of the Website, and/or change the conditions from time to time, and your continued use of the website following such change shall be deemed to be your acceptance of such change. It is your responsibility to check regularly to determine whether the conditions have been changed. If you do not agree to any change to the conditions then you must immediately stop using the website.
